Our Kern County Chapter is a vibrant, engaged group of nurse leaders spanning clinical practice, academia, and industry that meet monthly to connect, network, and discuss the top nursing issues of the day. Our members include nurse managers, nurse executives, nursing consultants, nursing professors, and emerging nurse leaders as well. In addition to a focus on professional development, our chapter also prioritizes community outreach, with our current initiatives revolving around elder care and placement.

We are the voice of Kern County's nurse leaders.

Annual Program

The purpose of this committee is to plan and orchestrate the coming year's annual conference.

Bylaws

The Bylaws Committee performs an annual review and makes recommendations to the Board of Directors for adding, amending, deleting or making any other changes in the bylaw s.

Communication/Voice

The goal of this committee is to strengthen ACNL’s voice and influence by utilizing effective communication strategies and consistent messaging.

Finance

The Finance Committee monitors ACNL's finances and assists the Board of Directors in determining the appropriate financial direction of the organization.

Health Policy

The purpose of the Health Policy Committee is education and advocacy. The committee is charged with analyzing and monitoring current regulatory and legislative issues.

Healthy Work Environment

The Healthy Work Environment Committee is charged with linking resources and best practices, identifying and creating resources and tools for nurse leaders that support and foster excellence in patient care.

The Member Experience Committee develops strategies to recruit and retain ACNL members. The committee is also charged with the oversight of ACNL’s marketing plan.

Nurse Leadership Development

The purpose of the Nurse Leadership Development Committee is to help evaluate, plan and recommend programs and events that meet the educational needs of ACNL’s diverse membership. This dynamic team also develops outcome measurements for nursing leadership development.

The Nominations Committee manages the process for vetting board candidates and compiles and presents the final roster for elections.

This team promotes quality and patients safety initiatives by gathering and sharing information, resources and best practices with ACNL members.

This committee oversees ACNL's scholarships and recognition awards.

ACNL Membership Types

ACNL offers several types of membership: Regular, Emeritus, Affiliate, and Lifetime.

ACNL Regular Membership

Regular Member is defined as registered nurses who function in leadership roles that optimize wellness.
A registered nurse who:

has responsibility for management and/or leadership of the patient care process, or
manages financial resources in healthcare, or
manages and directs appropriate allocation and utilization of human resources in healthcare, or
provides education and/or consultation to healthcare providers or consumers of healthcare, or
provides healthcare in an advanced and/or independent practice role, or
designs, conducts or evaluates research in healthcare, or
publishes, edits or authors for a healthcare publication, or
provides leadership in regulatory and other nursing and healthcare organizations, or
is past president of the corporation regardless of current work position.

Regular Members have full voting privileges
Annual Membership: $210

Emeritus Membership

Emeritus Membership is an active ACNL member for 5 years or more, age 62 or older, working less than 25% time.

Emeritus Members have full voting privileges
Annual Membership: $120

ACNL Affiliate Membership

Affiliate Member is an individual who is not a registered nurse, but has a direct communication or connection with nurse leaders on a regular basis and who either contributes to the profession of nursing or who serves the profession in a support role (Formerly Professional Colleague).

Affiliate members have no voting privileges.
Annual Membership: $180

ACNL Lifetime Membership

Lifetime membership is available to ACNL members who are 65 and over and have been ACNL members for at least 10 consecutive years. In order to obtain Lifetime Membership, please contact the ACNL office.

Lifetime members have full voting privileges.
Lifetime Membership: $1,200

The Nightingale Scholarship

The Association of Kern County Nurse Leaders (AKCNL) is pleased to announce our Nightingale Nursing Scholarship Award. This scholarship is available to assist in undergraduate and graduate preparation of nurses in Kern County. There are 10 undergraduate and/or graduate scholarships available in the amount of $1000.00 each. These funds have been raised by the Association of Kern County Nurse Leaders (AKCNL). Undergraduate and graduate students with nursing leadership qualities are eligible and are strongly encouraged to apply.

ACNL Recognition Award winners are diverse in their backgrounds, experience, and talents, representing Chief Nursing Officers, nurse academics, emerging nurse leaders, and everything in between, as well as philanthropists who have made incredible contributions to the field of nursing.
